Multinbox

One reading page for three inboxes.

Multinbox is a small personal tool that sorts a single person's Gmail accounts into one page: what needs an answer, what is worth a glance, and what it filed away. It runs on that person's own computer.

What it does

Twice a day Multinbox reads recent mail across the owner's Gmail accounts, sorts each message into a tier, and builds one page that summarizes the result.

What it never does. Multinbox never sends email, never moves anything to Trash, and never deletes a message. The only changes it makes in Gmail are adding its own labels and removing a message from the inbox. This is enforced in the code itself, not just by convention.

How it is built

Multinbox is a set of Python scripts that run locally on the owner's own machine and talk to the Gmail API directly. There is no Multinbox server, no account to create, and no hosted service. Nothing is uploaded anywhere as part of normal operation.

Google data it uses

It requests a single Gmail scope, gmail.modify, which is the narrowest scope that permits applying labels and archiving. Google describes this scope broadly — including send and delete — but Multinbox uses only the label and archive capabilities.

Who it is for

This is a personal project, built for and used by its author. It is not a commercial product, it is not sold, and it has no users to sign up. The source is shared so that someone technical can run their own copy against their own mailboxes.
